Our Principal Consultant, Dr. Marianna Loli, who specializes in infrastructure resilience and mitigation of natural hazard impacts, is presenting her paper titled “Forensic analysis of bridge collapse due to foundation scour and severe hydrodynamic loading during Medicane Ianos” during the 9th pan-Hellenic Conference of Geotechnical Engineering that will take place in Athens, Greece on 4-6 October 2023. The study analyzed a Central Greece flood, using numerical modeling, field investigation, UAV mapping, and material characterization to understand a bridge abutment fracture’s causes, estimate the minimum flow velocity that led to it, and offer insights into vulnerable bridges, serving as a validation for future river crossing research. The paper was written in collaboration with Stergios Mitoulis, Angelos Tsatsis, John Manousakis, Rallis Kourkoulis and Dimitrios Zekkos.
