The building is located in northern Athens and is a 3-story concrete structure built in 1986 following the provisions of the 1985 Greek Seismic Code. We were requested to assess the seismic capacity of the structure in the event of the worst possible earthquake scenario. Our approach comprise:
- Investigation of the as-built structure (core sampling and in situ scanning to identify the current condition of the structure and variations/additions to original construction.
- Site specific Hazard Assessment to map active seismic sources potentially affecting the structure and generation of hazard-consistent earthquake scenarios for the worst probable seismic event
- Numerical modeling of the 3-d structure with due consideration of the beyond-yield response of structural components and time-domain FE analyses (accounting SSI effects)
- Scenario-based structural vulnerability assessment of the residence and proposals to improve earthquake resistance.
