In Drilling Operations Cement bond logging is performed to determine the quality of cement bond on the exterior casing wall and the wellbore periphery. This is traditionally delivered by sonic (or ultrasonic) tools by recording variations in the amplitude of an acoustic signal traveling down the casing wall between a transmitter and a receiver. The main disadvantage of this approach is that the measurement is largely qualitative, while there is no indication of azimuthal cement variations such as channeling (i.e air channels or inclusions with remnants of drilling mud within the cement body). Grid Engineers have been hired to (i) conceptually design a measurement prototype that could potentially eliminate the recognized disantvatages of traditional logging and (ii) to design and execute a proof-of-concept experiment of their logging proposal.
