As members of the EU funded GIPIPE research project, our team was introduced to the performance of steel pipelines subjected to dip-slip faulting and landslide- induced actions. Using advanced experimental techniques and high-performance numerical simulations we designed and executed 1-g experiments at the fault-rupture box of the NTUA laboratory and we developed and validated a state-of the-art numerical methodology to analyse in detail the highly non-linear mechanics of soil-pipeline interaction.
