ReBounce- Integrated resilience assessment of bridges and transport networks exposed to hydraulic hazards
One of our team members served as Principal Investigator in this research project which was aiming to develop an integrated assessment framework for the quantification of risk and resilience of flood-critical bridges and the associated transport networks. In this context, we exploited sophisticated numerical tools, which enable the accurate simulation of the infrastructure system under extreme hydraulic actions and scour, as well as recent advancements in digital technologies for asset mapping, remote sensing, and geospatial analysis, ReBounce delivered novel guidelines which enable network operators to prioritise restoration and allocate resources objectively, efficiently, and systematically. The framework was tested on a road network in Greece and proved effective in predicting the geospatial distribution of flood-induced damages at regional scale.
