Design optimization of reinforced road embankments

Grid Engineers have supported the Vsol department of Boygues Construction in the design of mechanically stabilized road embankments in Guinea and Calais. Our duties involved : pull-out experiments of biaxial steel geogrids (at the testing device designed and constructed by Grid Engineers and hosted at the National Technical University of Athens) at different overburden stresses using soil from the construction site. The effect of dimensions of geogrid specimens and soil density on the capacity of the reinforcement was also assessed.
