Performance of concrete linings under repeated dynamic loading

Scope of this project was to provide an understanding on the seismic performance of unreinforced and lightly reinforced tunnel linings. Project duties: Provide an accurate simulation procedure (i.e. FE model combining the Concrete Damaged Plasticity constitutive model for the representation of concrete components with a kinematic hardening model for the simulation of the cyclic behaviour of soils); Validate Procedure against 1-g shaking experiments; Assess tunnel performance for different seismic records and describe failure mechanisms; Correlate induced damage state on tunnels to known earthquake intensity parameters.
